Honey

Honey is a popular ingredient in many natural hair conditioners and treatments. Honey's natural moisturizing properties make it ideal for the scalp, particularly if you suffer from a flaky or irritated scalp. To make a honey mask to give shine to your hair, combine 3 to 6 tbsp. of honey with 1 to 2 tbsp. of jojoba oil. Apply to your entire head, then rinse in warm water. Honey may be added to other natural hair masks, including oil- or fruit-based treatments, to help with scalp health.

Eggs

Eggs are a good choice if you have damaged hair. Hair is built of protein, so adding protein can improve the softness and shine. Beat two whole eggs and add 5 tsp. of olive oil. Work this mixture through the hair. Or defrizz your hair by combining mayonnaise and beaten egg. Always rinse egg-based masks using cool or lukewarm water to avoid cooking the egg in your hair.

Oil

Olive oil or coconut oil is good especially if you have dry or curly hair. Combine oil with lemon juice, honey or yogurt for a moisturizing hair mask. A honey and oil mask can soothe an irritated scalp, while equal parts lemon juice and olive oil is a traditional ayurvedic hair treatment. You can also use oil alone to create a homemade hot oil treatment. Oil-based masks work best if you apply heat, either by wrapping your head in plastic wrap or sitting under a hood dryer.
